On an abandoned rooftop,
Christmas Eve, in '85.
Showed her the moonlight,
But he couldn't help but cry.
The melody held in her voice
Softened the words.
She said, "boy, you better treat me right,
Cos I'm fed up with hurt".
And I found the note he left her Christmas Day.
Inside the words he chose,
He tried to write down what he couldn't say.
And I've looked on every rooftop
For the one that he described.
Now after all these years,
I've finally found the one on which he died.
And I look towards the sky.
And I see the light.
The moonlight.
(It's telling me just what to do)
The moonlight.
(I take a step towards the roof)
The moonlight.
(I see the ground, I see the fall)
The moonlight.
(I see the stars, I see it all).
"I don't think I fit in this world properly,
My bones and jaw keep
Clicking to be let free,
And all my guitars are shit, and cheap,
And out of tune.
I waste all my fucking time,
Dreamin' about-"
Fall from the stars.
And all this time,
I just wanted a reason to leave...
